You did the work. Get the ticket.
The worksheet that turns your MOS, AFSC, or NEC into an FAA rating — and the paperwork to make it official.
Your service time counts — but only if you translate it right.
The FAA credits military maintenance experience. Your MOS/AFSC/NEC doesn't map to A&P ratings out of the box, and the FSDO won't do the translation for you.
JSAMTCC or experience route?
Two different paths with different paperwork. Active duty and veterans don't file the same way. Pick wrong and you start over.
MOS ≠ rating.
15T, 6042, AD, 2A6X1 — your specialty means something to the service. To the FAA it needs to be translated into Airframe, Powerplant, or both.
Course 3 does the translation for you. Both routes, the specialty-to-rating worksheet, and the military blocks on the 8610-2 — built for service members and vets.
Pick your route. Translate your service. File clean paperwork.
Three stages. Built on FAA Order 8900.1 (Fig 5-135).

JSAMTCC vs. experience route — which one fits your service.
Match Your MOS to a Rating
Turn your MOS, AFSC, or NEC into Airframe, Powerplant, or both.
The Documents You Need
DD-214, JST, service records — what to gather and how to submit.
Active Duty vs. Veteran (8610-2 Blocks)
The military blocks on the 8610-2 — line by line, both statuses.
Your ASI Interview
What the inspector will ask about your service — and how to answer.
Your specialty → your rating. The FAA's way.
Enter your MOS, AFSC, or NEC. The worksheet tells you which rating the FAA recognizes for your specialty — straight from Order 8900.1 Fig 5-135.
- Every U.S. military maintenance specialty covered
- Maps to Airframe, Powerplant, or both
- Includes the officer letter template
- Shows how to attach your DD-214 and JST
Example: an Army 15T maps to both ratings.

Common questions.
Who is this for?
Active duty, veterans, and reservists with an aircraft-maintenance MOS, AFSC, or NEC who want to turn that service into a civilian A&P.
Will my service count toward the A&P?
Almost always — if it's translated the way the FAA expects. The FSDO makes the final call, not us. What we do: give you the worksheet, the templates, and the walkthrough so your service reads as eligibility.
What's the difference between JSAMTCC and the experience route?
JSAMTCC is the Joint Service Aviation Maintenance Technician Certification Council — a program that issues a Certificate of Eligibility for qualifying military maintainers. The experience route uses your DD-214 and 8610-2 without that certificate. Module 1 explains which one applies to you.
I'm still active duty — should I start now or wait?
Start now. Documenting as you go beats trying to reconstruct it after you separate. Module 4 covers active-duty vs. veteran filing so you know what to do at each stage.
What if my paperwork was already rejected?
Common — and fixable. Modules 4 and 5 show you the reasons ASIs turn military applicants away and how to fix them before your next appointment.
Is it self-paced?
Yes. Any device, any time. Templates are yours to keep.
