THE POWERPLANT PROBLEM

Powerplant has the lowest pass rate of the three writtens.

Two complete engine types (reciprocating and turbine), ignition and magnetos, fuel metering, lubrication, propellers, fire protection — the hardest material in the A&P path. Rushing through it hoping to memorize your way to a pass is a coin flip.

Question-bank drills get you through the FAA.

Sheppard, Prepware, ASA — cram the FAA's question bank until you can spot the right letter. Proven to work for test day. That's real value.

But Powerplant punishes memorization more than any other written.

Magneto timing. Compression ratios. Turbine airflow. Fuel/air ratios. The FAA loves rewording these — and a memorized letter falls apart when you don't actually understand the concept behind it.

ASM does both. Rapid question-bank drilling for fluency, plus real teaching that makes magnetos, turbines, and fuel systems finally click. One course. No trade-off. Built for the hardest written.

HOW IT WORKS

Learn it. Drill it. Prove you know it.

Every module follows the same rhythm. Understanding first, then rapid practice, then a checkpoint that confirms you're ready.

1

Learn

Structured lessons in plain English with worked examples. Grounded in FAA handbooks and references so what you learn is actually correct.

2

Drill

Test-format practice questions built to mirror how the FAA words its bank. Rapid-fire fluency for test day — the same thing Sheppard does, integrated right into the course.

3

Prove

Module quizzes confirm you're ready to move on. A cumulative readiness assessment at the end confirms you're ready to sit for the FAA.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Common questions.

Do I need to pass General before Powerplant?

Yes. The FAA requires you to pass the General knowledge test before you can sit for the Powerplant written. If you haven't done General yet, start there — or grab the bundle and get all three.

Why is Powerplant considered the hardest of the three writtens?

It has the lowest pass rate of the three A&P writtens, and it covers the most complex material — two full engine types (reciprocating and turbine), plus ignition, fuel metering, lubrication, and propellers. The parts that trip most people up (magnetos, turbine theory, fuel/air ratio) are exactly what we teach in the most depth so they finally make sense.

How is this different from Sheppard Air or Prepware?

Question-bank apps like Sheppard show you the FAA's questions and answers — you memorize them and pass. That's real, and we include the same rapid drilling right in the course. What Sheppard doesn't give you: teaching that makes magnetos and turbines actually click, plus the reasoning skills the DME will test in the oral. ASM gives you both. Drill for the test. Learn for the career.

Is this instead of the FAA Part 147 school?

No. This is written test prep — it prepares you to pass the FAA Powerplant knowledge test. To be eligible to sit for the test in the first place, you need documented experience (civilian or military) or a Part 147 approval. Not sure? Start here.

What if I don't pass on the first try?

You get a 7-day money-back guarantee at purchase. Beyond that: lifetime access means you can keep studying, retake drilling questions as many times as you want, and use the AI tutor to grind through weak engine subjects. The FAA charges $175 for a retake attempt — that's their fee, not ours.

Do I get lifetime access?

Yes. One-time or payment plan — either way, access is yours forever. Not a subscription, nothing to cancel.

Can I get all three courses instead?

Yes — the Complete A&P Written Prep Bundle is $599 for all three (General + Airframe + Powerplant). You save $298 vs buying them separately. Most candidates need all three, so if that's you, the bundle is the move.

Do you offer an in-person option?

Yes. Our In-Person Program in San Antonio adds a dedicated study room + facilitator + hands-on Oral & Practical prep in our shop. Different price, different value.
